Abstract

There are over 35 biologically active cytokines that have modulating effects on blood cell production at least in vitro. Among these are interleukin-11, leukemia inhibitory factor, and macrophage inflammatory protein 1 alpha, which have demonstrated effects both in vitro and in vivo. This report reviews the recent studies describing the production and action of these three cytokines, which may in the future be useful in treating patients with blood disorders.
