Safe, accurate, and comparatively inexpensive, dobutamine stress echocardiography is an excellent alternative to exercise testing. Its clinical applications include detecting coronary artery disease and preoperative and post-myocardial infarction (MI) risk stratification. Dobutamine stress echocardiography has shown promise in assessing stunned myocardium after thrombolytic therapy for acute MI.
