L asparaginase activity in mycobacteria

Abstract

In an earlier communication the presence of a single asparaginase in M. tuberculosis H37Rv and 2 asparaginases having different pH optima in tuberculosis H37Ra were demonstrated. In view of the difference between the virulent and avirulent strains, it was considered of interest to screen other strains of mycobacteria for asparaginase activity. The results suggested that unlike M. tuberculosis H37Ra, other strains possess a single asparaginase only.
