New forceps delivery technique for coil occlusion of patent ductus arteriosus

Abstract

We describe a new therapeutic catheter technique to coil occlude the patent ductus arteriosus in children using a commercially available biopsy forceps device. The major advantages are (1) complete retrievability; (2) controlled delivery with accurate positioning of coils to effect complete closure with a single coil; and (3) a decreased likelihood of inadvertent coil embolizations.
