Abstract

A medical record and clinical management system that has been in operation since 1973 in the Wishard Memorial Hospital located at the Indiana University Medical Center is discussed. It is now being expanded to the Indiana University Hospital and the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans Hospital on the Indiana University Medical Center campus. Currently, it carries more than 28 million observations for over 300,000 Wishard patients and about 2 million observations for more than 50,000 Veterans Hospital patients, and it is beginning to collect clinical data for Indiana University Hospital patients. At Wishard, The Regenstrief-developed registration, laboratory, and pharmacy systems provide registration data, laboratory results, and pharmacy results to the medical record system. The medical record system for all three hospitals runs on Digital Equipment VAX computers located at Wishard Memorial Hospital.
