Regulation of glycogen synthase: a relation of enzymic properties with biological function

The activity of glycogen synthase results from the integration of two types of regulatory signal: hormonal control via phosphorylation-dephosphorylation of the enzyme, and local cellular control via the concentrations of small molecule modifiers of the enzyme.
