Abstract

Inclusive and exclusive (i.e. via the φ resonance) Κ - meson production cross sections have been measured in proton-proton reactions at T beam = 2.85 GeV. The inclusive Κ - cross section is about a factor 20 lower than the Κ + cross sections at the same available energy above threshold. The observed φ/ω cross section ratio is enhanced by about an order of magnitude relative to naive predictions based upon the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka (OZI) rule. Differential cross section results are presented which indicate significant contributions from higher partial waves in the proton-proton entrance channel.
