The treatment of testicular cancer has dramatically improved during the past decade. Combination chemotherapy with PVB was instituted at Indiana University in 1974. Subsequent studies demonstrated that: (1) post PVB, surgery can cure patients; (2) vinblastine dosage can be lowered from 0.4 to 0.3 mg/kg without sacrificing cure potential; (3) maintenance vinblastine is not necessary; (4) VP-16 can be substituted for vinblastine with equivalent cure rates and decreased neuromuscular toxicity.
